Center for Manufacturing Excellence
The 47,000-square-foot Center for Manufacturing Excellence provides undergraduate interdisciplinary education in manufacturing. Courses are offered through the schools of Business Administration, Accountancy, and Engineering. Students work together in classes and on the 12,000-square-foot shop floor to develop products and address manufacturing problems. The Center is located in Oxford, Mississippi, on the University of Mississippi campus.
The Center also offers extension and training programs to Mississippi manufacturing companies and collaborates with K-12 schools and community colleges to develop programs.
Most CME students begin their journey in their freshman year, with limited second year entry also available. They take both academic and hands-on courses that teach the principles of accountancy, engineering, business, communication, and continuous improvement through the lens of manufacturing. Upon completion, students are awarded a minor or emphasis in manufacturing in addition to their major degree of study.
Future leaders are cultivated by immersing students in unique educational opportunities with industry partners through internships, co-ops, and experiential learning courses held at manufacturing facilities. Through these programs, the value of teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking are reinforced as students develop the workplace skill sets needed for 21st century careers. With a job placement rate consistently at or near 100%, graduates leave the CME with the academic knowledge and industry experience needed to embark on a successful career in advanced manufacturing.
